Battledle is a free daily puzzle about historical battles, made by an independent developer in the United Kingdom. In short: there are no accounts, no cookies, no advertising and no tracking, and we never ask for your name or email address.
What's kept on your device
Your progress in today's puzzle, your statistics and streak, and whether you've already sent feedback are saved in your browser's own storage (local storage). They never leave your device and we can't see them. You can wipe them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser's settings.
Feedback you choose to send
After a puzzle you can rate the map with a thumbs up or down and add a comment. We keep what you send, the puzzle's number and answer, whether you solved it and in how many guesses, which version of the site you used, and the time. We don't keep your IP address or anything else that identifies you. Please don't put personal details in a comment. Feedback is used only to improve the game and is deleted when it's no longer useful, and in any case within two years.
Hosting and visit counts
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles technical information such as your IP address to deliver the pages and to protect the site from abuse (for example, limiting how often feedback can be sent). We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't build a profile of you and doesn't follow you to other sites. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
How each puzzle goes
To see how hard each day's puzzle is, the game sends an anonymous record of each daily game as you play: the puzzle, your guesses and helplines in order, whether you finished and won, how many daily games you'd played before and your streak. It's labelled with a random code made for that one game, which isn't linked to you, your device or anything else, and it contains no IP address. Records are kept for up to two years.
Error reports
If the game hits an error on your device, it sends us a short technical report so we can fix it: the error message, where in the game it happened, the page, which release of the site it was, and the description your browser gives of itself (such as "Safari on iPhone"). Nothing that identifies you is included. Reports are deleted within six months.
Installing the app
If you add Battledle to your home screen, your browser keeps a copy of the game's files on your device so it can open without a connection. Nothing about you is stored in it.
Sharing your result
"Share result" only copies a short text to your clipboard. Nothing is posted anywhere unless you paste it yourself.
Tips
If you choose to leave a tip, you do it on Ko-fi's own site, under Ko-fi's privacy policy. Battledle only sees what Ko-fi passes on to any creator (such as the name and message you choose to leave) and never your card details.
Links to other sites
The result screen links to Wikipedia and to where each map came from (such as Wikimedia Commons). Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Because we don't hold information that identifies you, there is usually nothing of yours for us to find, change or delete. If you have a question or concern, email [email protected]. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this changes โ for example, if we add accounts or advertising โ we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change happens.
